In their penultimate fixture of the season, Fort William secured a 13th place finish following a late winner over Deveronvale.
Fort went ahead in the 7th minute when a great through ball from Danny Macintosh picked out James Whyte who took a touch before firing home under the advancing Rhys Fyfe.
In the seventeenth minute Robin Harvey was injured in a collision with Vale’s Sean Keith and defender Iain Foggo took over in goal with no other goalkeeper in the squad.
Midway through the half Paul Sutherland fired home from 25 yards to draw level. Three minutes later Fort went back in front through a stunning volley from John MacLeod out on the right.
Just before the break Fort extended their lead when trialist Macleod headed in his sixth of the season in his third appearance.
Deveronvale struck back less than a minute into the second through Stuart Leslie’s close range header.
With ten minutes remaining, Richard Tawse was adjudged to have fouled Graeme Rodger inside the home penalty area and Stuart Leslie fired in past the despairing hand of Foggo.
Three minutes remaining and Nicholas Stein turned super-sub popping up at the far post to prod home from close range as Fort secured their highest league position since 1990/91.
