Huntly left it late but survived a scare in edging out an improved Rothes side 2-1 at Christie Park.
The home side were awarded a penalty in the 35th minute when Nathan Sharp upended new signing Paul Napier in the box. Dennis Wyness stepped up from the spot to send Sean McIntosh the wrong way and score on his debut.
Rothes levelled in the 70th when a Craig Macmillan free kick into the area was flicked on by debutant Sean Jennings for David McNamara to stab the ball in at the back post.
Huntly regained the lead with less than thirty second of normal time remaining, substitute Matthew McDonald did well to hold off his marker and play the ball into the path of Dennis Wyness, who placed a shot from the edge of the area into the bottom corner.
Things took a twist two minutes into stoppage time when Sean Webb pulled David McNamara down inside the Huntly area. Rothes substitute Sean McIntosh had the chance to pull level from the penalty kick only to put his effort wide of the post.
