Turriff Utd 2 Clachnacuddin 0
Turriff Utd maintained their position near the top of the table and kept yet another clean sheet but had to work hard to eventually wear down a 10 man Clach who finished the game with 9 men at the very end.
Ross Jack’s side could have gone ahead in 6 minutes when Artjoms Kuznecovs saw a headflick tipped on to the outside of the post by Ally Ridgers for a corner while midway through a dour first half, Ridgers raced to get to a 50/50 ball before Nick Gray.
Turriff wasted an excellent chance to go ahead in 24 minutes when Gray’s cutback from the right found Aaron Mckenna whose netbound shot was handled on the line by Andrew Skinner. The No 2 was red carded for preventing a goalscoring opportunity.
However Ally Ridgers guessed right, diving well to his right to turn Andy McAsskill’s weakly hit penalty round the post.
Turriff didn’t let their heads go down, Lewis Davidson firing over from a good position down the right but but had goalkeeper Greg Sim to thank for a fingertip save from impressive Lilywhites forward Daniel McLennan.
At the start of the second half a Jamie Beagrie header landed on the roof of the net but the opener eventually came with the influence of three newly introduced substitutes taking effect.
Craig McAskill had started finding space on the right, Gary McGowan instrumental in the 68th minute move which led to Gary Harris cutting a ball back across goal for Nick Gray to tap home.
There then followed a spell of continual offsides before the homesters killed it off with the second right on full time Jamie Doran brought down Harris in a last man challenge, Harris himself stepping up to fire the spot kick straight down the middle.
It was a brave attempt by the Lilywhites who had a good shout for a penalty in 74 minutes when McLennan was brought down in the home box but the foul was given the other way by Craig Sim.
