Wick Academy progressed into the quarter finals of the North of Scotland cup with a comfortable four nil victory over North Caledonian outfit Golspie Sutherland.
Academy stamped their authority on the game early & retained possession very well with goalmouth action few & far between.
Wick broke the deadlock on 13 minutes from the penalty spot after Davie Allan was brought to the ground by Arran Christie and Richard Macadie placed the ball into the bottom right hand corner leaving Bokas with no chance.
Wick continued to dominate possession with very little in clear cut chances as the Golspie rear guard stood firm, long range efforts from Macadie & Halidale were dealt with comfortably by Bokas while at the other end a snap shit from James Murray failed to trouble McCarthy.
Half time Golspie 0 Wick 1
Wick came out after half time with real intent to put the game to bed early in the second half and Cunningham hit the post with a curling shot from 18 yards before two goals in two minutes ended this game as a contest. Allan benefitted from a deflection before slotting the ball into the bottom corner from 8 yards then a minute later Manson was on the score sheet after excellent play by McAdie down the left set up the full back for a tap in.
The fourth goal came after 71 minutes when substitute Gruzel was on hand to finish from 12 yards after initially blocking his own players shot.
Wick will face tougher challenges in the next round than they did tonight but they look to have strengthened in the right areas with quality additions of Macarthy, Campbell & Hallidale all impressing on the night with the real test to come when they face Deveronvale in the Highland a Football League.
