Team of the Week 18th-25th May 2013: Six-goal Sid

Team of the Week returns for its final outing before the end of the season, with Saturday’s game at Claggan Park being merged onto last weekend’s fixtures which signalled the end of the season for most clubs

Starting between the sticks, Andy Reid made several stops to deny Buckie Thistle at Victoria Park, including a penalty save from Nikki Smith. Eric Watson and Russell McBride were both solid in securing clean sheets for their side, while the midfield five consists of plenty of goals – the majority of them coming from Steven Mackay. Brora’s top scorer notched a double hat-trick in his side’s thumping 12-2 victory over Fort William, and as a result is an obvious choice for Player of the Week.

Goalless conclusion to 2012-2013 campaign

In the seventh minute a great ball in from the left was met by Scott Miller six yards out but with the goal gaping he fired over the top.  In the 18th minute the same player struck a dipping volley that only just cleared the crossbar as Lossie threatened once more.

Fort had a couple of chances over their own over the first half.  Iain Maclellan was sent through by his brother on the 20th minute and he took a couple of touches but the ball bobbled just at the wrong time for him and he fired wide.  In the 43rd minute Mark Gillespie rose to head a back post corner into the side netting as the half ended goalless.

In the 51st minute a Aileen Maclellan shot from the edge of the box was turned around the post by Errol Watson but still there was no breakthrough to be had.  Fort William brought on Barna Tot and David Forbes in search of a goal but it was not to be.  Kyle Robertson touched over a 25 yard effort from Kevin Grant in the 73rd minute but from there the game simply spluttered to a conclusion with yellow cards for Mark Gillespie and Scott Miller for some last minute handbags at dawn type action being the only note to add.

HFL Newsround: 22nd May 2013

Forres Mechanics are set to lose two players before the start of next season.

Departing the club are midfielder Martin McMullen, who joined a year ago from Lossiemouth, as well as forward Kevin Duguid, six years after joining from Elgin City.

However, the Can-Cans have secured the services of midfielder Duncan Jones for next season.

Forres manager Charlie Rowley said:

“Martin has decided to give the Highland League a miss next season. He’s been disappointed with his own performances this year, which has been the catalyst for his decision. Meanwhile Kevin Duguid is going to be offshore. They are two players I would like to have kept next year.
