Fans Tourney set to return in 2014

After ten consecutive seasons of the Fans Tourney we have been forced to take a year off, but we will return in 2014.  The combination of time constraints and a lack of usable seven a side goals at the traditional venue have put FT11 on hold for 12 months as the Opportunity Enhancement Trust lays the groundwork for the future.

Project Manager Steven Rattray explained, “There is a huge amount of work being done behind the scenes to expand the range of products that we provide to the sports and education markets and these have been the main priority since the end of the season.

Vale sign keeper Fox

Deveronvale have signed goalkeeper Charlie Fox, following the departure of Ewen MacDonald to Peterhead.

Fox worked previosuly with Vale boss Charlie Charlesworth in the Elgin City youth ranks, and will now compete with current number one Darren McConnachie for the gloves at Princess Royal Park.

Charlesworth was pleased to have moved so swiftly for a replacement stopper.

"I can announce that we have secured the signature of Charlie as back up to Mini. Ewen Macdonald, the young up and coming keeper has been picked up by Peterhead. We are obviously saddened at the loss of Ewen, especially at such short notice and we wish him all the very best and thank him for his services last season.

"We immediately turned our attentions to a replacement and approached Charlie who hasn't pulled on gloves for one or two seasons due to having a young family. Charlie is at the right age at 25 and had no hesitation in wanting to join us here at Vale, once he had discussed the commitment with his family. Charlie is visibly delighted at this opportunity and is working very hard with Mini to regain his sharpnes and is already looking the goalkeeper we know he is.

"Charlie spent a lot of years at Elgin coming through the ranks and was my U19 keeper there when I served as Head of Youth. Charlie has taken a very serious approach to his new responsibility and we thank him for taking this opportunity."

Formartine handed Shire test in Ramsdens debut / Locos list Bain at player's request

The Ramsdens Cup First Round draw was made earlier today, and Formartine United have been handed a home tie against Third Division side East Stirlingshire their competition debut.

Steve Paterson's men will host Shire at North Lodge Park on 27th July.

John Coughlin's men finished bottom of Division Three last season, and narrowly overcame Fraserburgh 2-1 in the Scottish Cup last September.

Meanwhile, Inverurie Locos midfielder Clark Bain has been placed on the transfer list at his own request.

Bain joined Locos from Cove Rangers in the summer of 2010 after a five year stint at Allan Park where he twice won the Highland League title under the management of John Sheran.

Locos co-manager Scott Buchan insisted the player made the request to be made available.

"It has simply come at Clark's request. He came to us at the end of last season to tell us he may be on his travels abroad due through work. I'm not too sure what's happening on that front as I haven't spoken to Clark in a while, but he has contacted Kenny Coull to ask to be put on the transfer list."
