Cowie, Gauld and Scott among Highland League players on move

There has been a flurry of transfer activity in the Highland League this week, including Craig Cowie moving to Buckie from Deveronvale on a three-year deal.

The midfielder has been on-loan at Victoria Park for part of this season.

Heading in the opposite direction are Kyle Gauld and Robert Scott.

Elsewhere, Keith have signed Ross Anderson from Inverurie Locos on a three-year deal.

Rothes have secured the services of Cameron Lisle on-loan from Brora for the rest of the season.

Scott Maclean has moved to the Speysiders from Clach on a one-year deal.

Scott Davidson has left Mackessack Park and decided to play for junior team Islavale.

Meanwhile, having turned 40 last week, Huntly forward Dennis Wyness isn’t planning on hanging up his boots just yet.

After finalising a one-year contract extension, the former Aberdeen, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Hearts forward is pleased to extend his stay at Christie Park until 2018.

He said: “I’ve signed another year and next season could possibly be my last. You take it season by season as you get to this age.”

Lastly, Scott Miller will move to Turriff United when his deal with Lossiemouth expires in the summer.

Team news for Saturday 25th March

Highland League

Brora Rangers v Formartine Utd

Match of the day is at Dudgeon Park where surely only a win will keep either Brora or Formartine in the title race. Paul Brindle is the only injury absentee for the home side.

Formartine are unbeaten in eleven league matches and have kept five clean sheets in a row, a win for the visitors would close the gap on their opponents to five points with three games in hand.

Deveronvale v Forres Mechanics
Liam Forbes returns to the Deveronvale squad for the visit of Forres to Princess Royal Park. Dan Smith, Graeme Watt, Zander Jack and Scott Fraser are all unavailable.

Callum Howarth  misses out for Forres with an ankle ligament problem, while Alan Pollock, Owen Paterson and Connor MacIver are all unavailable. Scott Moore returns from suspension. Meanwhile, the club announced today that midfielder Aaron McLean has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Lossiemouth in the summer.

Fort William v Rothes
Fort William quartet Ally Stark, Adam Porritt, Barna Tot and Michael Ellis return to the squad for their clash with Rothes at Claggan Park. Goalkeeper Douglas MacLennan suffered an injury in training and will miss the rest of the season.

Rothes pushed champions Cove all the way last weekend and they will still be without the suspended Ryan Macritchie tomorrow. Ben Cullen is away to America with the RAF until May, but Ian Macrae is fully fit again and returns to the squad.

Huntly v Buckie Thistle
Huntly face title chasing Buckie at Christie Park and they have Kieran Adams available again after serving his three-game ban. Martin MacDonald remains out long term.

The Jags remain at the top of the table after two good wins over Wick Academy. Andrew Skinner, Kai Ross and Sean Carroll are all out injured for the visitors.

Audio Interviews: Cooper and Cowie

Fraserburgh thrashed Inverurie Locos 5-1 thanks in part to a double from Scott Henry.

After the match, reporter John Innes spoke to managers from both sides. Listen to the interviews below.

Fraserburgh boss Mark Cowie

Locos manager Neil Cooper

Reporter Andrew Raffan's match verdict can be read below:

Fraserburgh seized the initiative in a scrappy opening to the game, following up a previously threatening corner with a perfect delivery from Garry Harris to the back post. Rising above the surrounding defenders, Scott Henry aimed his header into the ground with the ball bouncing into the roof of the net having evaded a crowded goal- line.

The opportunity for an instant replay fell to Jordan Leyden as he stood over a free-kick on the edge of the box, but his tame swerving effort was comfortably saved by Peter Tait.
